Introduction

I am an avid photographer who has a more than average interest in Biology. Hence I majored in it in my course of study in university. Hence I am one of the curious few who asks, "what is the species name of that XXX that I just took a picture of ?" and also I wonder how XXX looks like or if it still exists in Singapore/ BTNR/ Pierce / MacRitchie/ Seletar/ Nee Soon Swamp forest.

Hence my inspiration for this project. If the project would have a more serious name as perhaps like in a scientific journal, it would be called.

A visual record of the flora and fauna of Singapore Island with geographical and temporal data

but of course that's quite a mouthful and typically dry. Hence I decided to call this blog "Nature Spies" in appreciation to the avid nature photographers who are shooting up a storm every weekend risking malaria and dengue and take only pictures away from our nature reserves.

How do I post?

Firstly you can make better use of your camera's ability to record data. Switch on your IPTC info so that we can know the time of the shot. For the geographical data we would need your own input. For this part I would leave it up to your discretion. You can be as brief as bukit timah nature reserve or be more verbose and include directions to your favourite hideout with GPS coordinates. (see geo caching in google!) but don't be too brief for e.g. Singapore, Northern /Southern /Eastern /Western Singapore, Exceptions are offshore islands like Pulau Hantu, Pulau Ubin (yes underwater photos are greatly appreciated here too!) I won't own your pictures so don't worry about copyrights. There's no need for you to edit the picture size as well. They will be auto cropped to the same size when posted.

I have set up this blog to be self-maintained. you just have to email the picture and put in the email title the name of the organism or "unknown" if you don't know. Where and when you saw the animal/plant goes in the body of the email. Then just send it to the email below! Visit here to see your post! Heh but so far I am the only one posting. Q: Why should the species name be in italics?

A: Heh well firstly that's how the names are meant to be written (see link below) and well I haven't found out how to italicise the blog titles in RSS feeds so if you see funny stuff like < i > < / i > its meant for the html reader actually
